When opening it with foobar2000, all special characters are displayed incorrectly, because the player can't determine the encoding type. However, the CUE file is saved as plain ASCII text file. foobar2000 could make use of it immediately, without the need to add it manually for each CD.Ĭurrently, fre:ac stores the track info in UTF-8 format if I got it right (although there's no selection possible at the "Info-Tags" tab in the settings dialogue). It would be great if fre:ac would write the genre and date information this way, especially since they're already there after retrieving the info via CDDB. Some players, like foobar2000, are able to retrieve the genre and date information when it is stored in the CUE file in the following way: This way, a FLAC/CUE combination could be handled exactly like a CD.

So my request would be to implement CUE import in a way that a FLAC file containing a complete CD, along with a CUE file, can be imported, thus enabling a trackwise conversion to MP3 or whatever format is selected. It kind of weird that fre:ac can create the CUE file when ripping a CD, but can't load it in order to import the track information. However, it seems it can't be done with fre:ac, because it can't import the CUE file and thus all track info is lost and the result of the conversion is one big MP3 file. However, some devices (like my portable MP3 player) don't support FLAC playback and thus require a conversion to MP3, which is possible from FLAC, of course.
#Freac hot to read cue sheets and split to individual tracks archive#
I use fre:ac to archive my audio CDs in the FLAC format (one big FLAC file including all tracks of the CD), along with a CUE file in order to play the tracks separately, e.g.
